Tom Sherer (2/5 stars, a week ago): I rarely sell scrap metal; maybe once every year or two as it collects from projects around my property. Therefore I'm not sure if someone more experienced would have had a different experience which is why I rated it two stars instead of one. I had waited more than a year to take a small trailer of metal (iron and aluminum separated) to a scrapyard to at least get a little money. Columbus Metal Recycling's Google listing says it closes at 4 p.m. Saturdays. After driving 40 minutes I pulled into the parking lot at 3:42 p.m. After parking and getting out of the car to unload a worker walked up and said it was 3:46 p.m. and they closed at 3:45 p.m. I had a relatively small amount of stuff and nicely asked "I really can't get rid of this stuff today?" She said I needed to hurry – seemingly not realizing she had just wasted another minute of my time when I was supposed to "hurry." My son and I carried the more expensive aluminum in and had it weighed. It was worth only $5 at which point I was told they had a $10 minimum – but that they'd gladly take it if I just wanted to recycle it. I had only a few pieces of cheaper iron scrap remaining on the trailer but they were fairly heavy. At this point however I just wanted to get rid of all the metal and be on my way so they said we could just bring in the iron and leave it. My son and I grabbed a cart went to our car unloaded the few pieces and rolled the cart back into the building. Gladly we then left. In short if your Google listing says you close at 4 p.m. THEN CLOSE AT 4 P.M. not 3:45 p.m. And if you have a payout minimum put that somewhere on your website. (But I'm glad that you're glad to take small amounts such as mine so you still can sell it for profit after I wasted gas and 90 minutes to bring it to you when I could have – and should have – gone somewhere else.)
