About This Center

Alachua County's Rural Collection Centers (RCCs) are regional facilities serving residents for recycling, solid waste, yard trash, bulk items, and household hazardous waste disposal. These centers do not accept commercially generated waste and are staffed by Solid Waste and Resource Recovery employees. Accepted items include cardboard, paper, commingled containers, garbage, yard waste, bulk metals, and household hazardous waste like oil filters and old paint. There is a reuse area for gently used items, and each visitor is limited to one level truck bed per day. The RCCs operate from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, closed on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, as well as on specific holidays. No one was present to answer my questions but conveniently showed up after I finished unloading to tell me there was a size limit. Better signage and some guidelines would be nice and would do a better job than those who work there.

I think it is an amazing and under-utilized resource especially to throw away hazardous stuff safely. Plus I find cool material there too such as discarded gas grills and other equipment that can be cannibalized for parts. Truly good use of the materials. I love that they are open on Saturday.

Joel C (1/5 stars, 4 years ago): This place is a collection site. I do take my trash there and recyclables there. It you to be a clean place and safe. But now spiders every where broken glass. And the people that work there are either inside the building or they are sitting down smoking a cigarette. I know we have to follow the rules when we go there. What rules do the workers have to follow. A waste of our taxes dollars.
