Alderman-Dow Iron & Metal is a family-run scrap yard on Chapel Street in New Haven, and one of the oldest in Connecticut. They buy and pay cash for ferrous and non-ferrous metal, including copper and brass, aluminum, steel and cast iron, stainless steel, lead, tin, pewter, bronze, nickel alloys, and insulated electrical wire. They also take appliances, automotive scrap such as catalytic converters, car batteries, radiators, and rims, computer and electronic scrap, and stainless kitchen and contractor equipment. Beyond over-the-counter drop-off, Alderman-Dow scraps whole junk cars and runs pickup programs for contractors, electricians, auto shops, and other businesses that generate scrap on the job. The yard has a public scale for weigh-and-pay service, posts current buy prices online, and pays cash on the spot. The yard is just off I-91 and I-95 in New Haven. Junkyards & Auto Salvage in New Haven: FAQ

Can I pull my own parts at junkyards in New Haven, CT?

Self-service (u-pull-it) yards let you bring tools and remove parts yourself for a small entry fee. Full-service yards pull the part for you. Each listing notes which kind it is where we have that detail.

Do junkyards buy cars?

Most auto salvage yards buy junk and wrecked cars, usually priced on weight plus any resellable parts. You will need the title in most states. Some yards include free towing.

Should I call ahead before visiting?

Yes. Inventory changes daily, and many yards will check whether they have your make and model before you drive over.
