The Koscove family, in recycling for a century, runs Colorado Industrial Recycling on East Las Vegas Street in Colorado Springs. The yard buys metal from businesses and from households, processes insulated wire, and recycles vehicles for their scrap value. Vehicle owners show a title or pay for a VIN verification, the vehicle needs an attached VIN plate, and the yard drains and recycles all fluids and files the state reports. It takes passenger vehicles, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, golf carts, trash trucks, fire engines, and trailers. Commercial metal accounts add pallet, concrete, and cardboard recycling, and the yard runs roll-off trash service with one flat fee covering haul and landfill tip, scheduled within 24 hours in most service areas. Industrial cleanup and guided tours are also available. The public yard opens weekdays.

Isaac Koscove started recycling glass, tires, and rags in Colorado Springs in 1917, and his sons moved into metal and auto parts in the mid 1930s. Koscove Metal is now a fourth-generation family business, with Joe Koscove as sole owner since 2003. The yard on West Colorado Avenue recycles all metals, ferrous and nonferrous, and staff help unload and sort loads. It also takes used and new lead acid batteries, most e-waste, and cardboard, and sells ammo boxes and shell brass for reloading by appointment. Commercial accounts get a free on-site consultation, a roll-off container from 10 to 40 cubic yards, a pickup schedule, and payment weekly, monthly, or per load. A larger commercial yard on West Cucharras Street handles bigger volume, and a sister store called The Cove resells salvaged goods.

Cardboard Recycling in Colorado Springs: FAQ

Where can I drop off a lot of cardboard in Colorado Springs, CO?

Municipal drop-off sites and transfer stations usually take flattened boxes free. For large commercial volumes, a recycler may provide a baler or container and sometimes pays for clean bales.

Does cardboard need to be clean?

Flatten boxes and remove packing foam and plastic. Normal tape and labels are fine, and a little grease on a pizza box is accepted by most programs. Wet or soaked cardboard is not.

Do recyclers pay for cardboard?

Only in bulk. Baled, clean corrugated cardboard is a commodity, but household quantities are not worth paying for.
