Cox Metal Recycling is the scrap-only yard on South Wesleyan Boulevard in Rocky Mount, sister to Cox Auto Salvage in Elm City, a family-owned operation since 1962. It buys non-ferrous metal in any grade or quantity: copper, insulated copper wire, aluminum, aluminum cans, brass, tin, titanium, zinc, and lead batteries. Electronic platform scales weigh the non-ferrous, certified electronic scales are on site, and the unloading areas are easy to reach. Ferrous buying covers junk vehicles, appliances, lawnmowers, and farm and industrial equipment, with vehicle pickup arranged in some cases. Auto part cores, including batteries and radiators, are bought too. The yard serves Nash and Edgecombe Counties and is open Monday through Friday and Saturday morning.

Battery Recycling in Rocky Mount: FAQ

Will a scrap yard in Rocky Mount, NC pay for car batteries?

Most scrap yards buy lead-acid car batteries by the pound or per battery. Auto parts stores usually take them free and may refund a core charge.

How should I store batteries before recycling?

Tape the terminals of lithium and 9-volt batteries or bag each one separately. Loose lithium batteries can short and start fires in bins and trucks.

Can I throw household batteries in the trash?

Alkaline batteries are legal to trash in most states, but rechargeable and lithium batteries are not. Recycling all of them is the safe choice.
