Three family members opened Florida Recycling in DeLand in 1972. Sellers are paid cash on certified scales, and cleaner loads bring a higher payout. Aluminum cans are bought even when dirty or holding a little water, unless the contamination is extreme. Other aluminum includes extrusion, sheet, painted siding, cast, screws, and window cranks, with glass removed first. Copper grades include bare bright, #1, #2, and insulated #1 and #2 wire, along with steel. Laptops and desktops are bought at the steel price, and hard drive destruction is available for a fee. Motherboards, RAM, processors, and power supplies are priced on their own. Appliances, including dishwashers, are accepted. Cars, plastic bottles, concrete, cardboard, and used boxes are turned away, and nothing is resold to the public. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
