West Hernando Transfer Station
About This Center
Hernando County's solid waste facilities include the Northwest Solid Waste Management Facility, West Hernando Convenience Center, and East Hernando Convenience Center. The Northwest facility accepts most types of waste and recycling, with exceptions like tires, commercial waste, and certain construction debris. Residents with proof of ownership/residency can dispose of up to 2,000 pounds of household waste annually for free. Recycling is accepted at all locations, including paper, cardboard, aluminum, tin, and rigid plastic containers. Hazardous waste like paint, used oil, and fluorescent bulbs are also accepted. The West and East Convenience Centers have limitations on load size and material types, with restrictions on commercial waste. Residents must show proof of residency and adhere to guidelines for using the facilities. Materials not accepted at the convenience centers must be taken to the Northwest Solid Waste Management Facility. Proof of residency can be shown with a driver's license or a Solid Waste issued barcode hang tag.

TJ (3/5 stars, a year ago): Overall I think it's a pretty easy and convenient facility to use. It sucks that a few months ago it went from two visits a day to one visitor day allowed for residents. Some of the employees have a serious attitude problem. I just laugh it off because I think it's funny when garbage men yell at me. But my wife takes offense to it. So in the future please don't yell at my pregnant wife again. She just doesn't have the vast experience in garbage dumping you do.

Thomas Bowen (5/5 stars, 5 years ago): We have used this transfer station for 6 years and we love this place. They will take almost anything. I just dropped off some construction debris from a remodeling project and I have dropped off at least 20 loads of branches and brush in the last 6 years. The guy at the entrance asks for your address to make sure you live in Hernando county and what you have and directs you to the area for your drop off. No charge for any of this. What a deal and the workers are actually nice folks.
