Loads arrive sorted: clean cardboard, chipboard, and brown paper; office paper and mail; books and magazines; clothing, shoes, and fabric; plastic; glass bottles and containers; tin cans and scrap metal; aluminum cans and foil; and TVs and electronics. The center closes on most holidays and whenever the forecast calls for a heat index above 95 degrees or a wind chill below zero. A second KNIB center operates in Machesney Park.
