The Fort Payne Recycling Center accepts a variety of items including metal and tin food cans, #1 PETE plastic, #2 HDPE colored plastic, #2 HDPE uncolored plastic, shrink wrap plastic, aluminum drinking cans, newspaper, mixed paper products, glass, scrap metal, used motor oil, and used automobile batteries. They do not accept paint or other liquids, hazardous items, stumps or tree trunks over 500 pounds, limbs longer than 8 feet, loose pine straw, leaves, or grass clippings that are not bagged, scattered materials, small boxes or tiny piles of sticks, materials from inside storage sheds or commercial buildings, tires, substantial amounts of construction materials, materials from empty lots or unoccupied buildings, materials from torn down structures, or materials from severe tree trimming. Fees are charged for certain items, and residents are encouraged to haul materials themselves to the landfill if needed.
