The City of Opelika offers curbside single-stream recycling service, with pick-up days determined by your Ward from Monday to Friday. Beginning January 13, 2025, recycling will be collected every week, five days a week, aiming to provide a simpler service. It is crucial to follow all recycling rules to prevent contamination, as contaminated recycling can lead to entire loads being discarded. The curbside recycling program accepts aluminum cans, cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and jugs, and steel cans, while not accepting plastic bags, styrofoam, or wood. The Jeter and 8th Avenue Full-Service Recycling Centers accept various items, including appliances, tires (for Opelika residents only), and yard waste. Glass, batteries, and electronics are not accepted. Plastic bags can be recycled at specific stores, and batteries can be recycled at designated locations.
