Environmental Compost Facility - Lafayette Consolidated Government

The Dean Domingues Compost Facility, part of the Public Works Department of Lafayette Consolidated Government, is located at 400 Dugas Road in north Lafayette Parish. This facility specializes in composting green waste such as tree branches, grass, and shrub trimmings to create a nutrient-rich soil additive. Citizens can benefit from this program by picking up free compost, contributing to stable garbage disposal rates, and reducing landfill waste. It's important to note that only green waste is accepted; no processed wood, lumber, or trash other than tree waste is permitted. Additionally, root balls from trees cannot be accepted due to their large quantities of roots and compacted dirt. Residents bringing yard waste are charged $6.00 per cubic yard, and the facility is open for drop-offs and compost pick-ups on weekdays and Saturdays. Machinery is available to load pickup trucks and trailers, but vehicles with an enclosed back require citizens to load the compost themselves.
