Kari Cooper (1/5 stars, 13 years ago): I had an unfortunate experience with Darling International in November of 2011. We sadly had to put down our 28 year old 4H horse and had made arrangements with Darling to pick him up the next morning. Because of Darling's policy that they can not open gates or enter a pasture we were forced to put him down in our driveway along a busy county road. We covered him with a tarp and hoped that neighborhood animals would leave him alone overnight as this would be upsetting and dangergerous because the horse was now full of poison. We contacted close by dog owners to warn them. The next day we waited for Darling to show up. I was home all morning and waited for my husband to come home before taking the kids out because they kept looking out the window to see if "Buddy" was still there. We arranged our day around Darling coming to pick up our horse. Finally at 11:00 AM I called to make sure they were still coming and their office assured me that the truck would be there that day. I called again at 4:45 but no one answered. They never showed up. We had to do something! My kids were upset and we had a dead horse in our driveway. On the third day we hired local farmers to move him and made other arrangements for him. I was so disappointed in Darling's unprofessional service. The following Monday morning the disposal truck showed up but the horse was gone. They did not bother to call us to explain what had happened. If you need this service I would recommend exploring other options as well. Darling International made a very difficult situation even worse!

The driver showed up at 11:00 am that same morning and had her loaded before I could go and write a check and get back out to him. Very fast service for a very emotional time we where glad it was taken care of very quickly and can't imagine how many calls they get a day. Hope to never see them again but that's not the reality of having animals.

The following morning a lady contacted me and told me what we needed to due with the cow for them to be able to pick it up. I told her that was fine that I would arrange to get the dead carcass to the end of our driveway for pickup first thing this morning. It's now 6:38pm MDT and still the dead cow is down at the end of our road and since they leave at 5pm there is no one to contact about this situation. Also they fact that they wanted the check taped to the cow which was down there all day without any contact from the company saying they weren't going to make the scheduled pickup is really poor business as for safe guarding a clients information. So I can only assume from the previous review that this is normal practice for your company. So much for your companies "Code Of Conduct"! If there was another option here I would be using it for sure but when you have the corner on the market in Idaho you can treat your customers like this.
