Ohio University's Sustainability Climate Action Plan outlines the institution's commitment to reducing waste through responsible waste management practices. The plan includes goals to divert 60% of municipal waste from landfills by 2026 and increase diversion to reuse, recycling, and composting. Led by Campus Recycling Zero Waste, Ohio University focuses on increasing waste diversion through initiatives such as the Ohio Ecohouse and the Ohio Compost Facility. The facility, established in 2009, features the largest in-vessel composting system at any college or university in the nation, composting nearly 100% of food waste from dining halls and food facilities. This facility serves as an educational model for sustainability and provides students with insights into waste management practices. Additionally, Ohio University hosts events like Earth Day celebrations and supports initiatives like the Green Roof Professional Accreditation program.
