Four generations of the Harter family have run trash and recycling service around La Crosse for more than 50 years, and Harter's Quick Clean Up built a material recovery facility at the end of 2013. The 19,500-square-foot plant has four shipping bays, sits near I-90, separates 10 materials at once, and processes up to 10 tons of residential commingled recycling per hour. Commercial and industrial volumes go through it too. Free drop-off covers plastic bottles, tin and aluminum cans, cardboard, paper, glass jars, and cords. Batteries, electronics, shredded paper, packing peanuts, clothing, and wood are refused. Related Harter's companies run curbside carts, dumpsters, totes, roll-offs, and C-Cure-It paper shredding, a NAID AAA certified service.
