YMCA Thrift Shop Electronics Recycling

1000 N. Main St

The YMCA Thrift Shop on North Main Street in Blacksburg doubles as a drop-off point for electronics, rechargeable batteries, CFL bulbs, and ink jet cartridges. Electronics, working or not, go to the Thrift Shop dock during business hours, and televisions are accepted from Montgomery County residents only. Batteries, bulbs, and cartridges go to the recycling station in the lobby, a Town of Blacksburg installation. Each item is bagged individually, and the shop supplies bags and tape. Single-use alkaline batteries stay out because they belong in household trash, and stained or unusable textiles are turned away. Gently used clothing, books, housewares, blankets, and toys are donated at the same dock.

Bee Green Recycling

3609 Nine Mile Rd

804-912-2498

Mon-Fri 7am-4:30pm; Sat 7am-12pm

Bee Green Recycling buys scrap metal inside an enclosed drive-through building at 3609 Nine Mile Road in Richmond, so unloading and payment happen out of the weather. Family owned since 2015, it calls itself Central Virginia's only enclosed scrap facility. A visit starts on the scale: the car is weighed with the load, staff help sort the metal, and a second weigh-out sets the payout. Most sellers scan the receipt at the on-site ATM and leave with cash. The buy list runs from bare bright copper, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel to cast iron, catalytic converters, car motors, alternators, starters, transmissions, radiators, appliances, transformers, electric motors, and computer towers. Lead, radioactive metals, items holding liquids or chemicals, and complete vehicles are refused. The yard records ID and license plate on every check-in.
