The buy list covers ferrous grades like heavy melt, shredded, busheling, bundles, plate and structural, and cast iron appliances, plus aluminum alloys, copper grades, brass, stainless, nickel alloys, lead, and batteries. Most scrap yards buy lead-acid car batteries by the pound or per battery. Auto parts stores usually take them free and may refund a core charge.
Tape the terminals of lithium and 9-volt batteries or bag each one separately. Loose lithium batteries can short and start fires in bins and trucks.
Alkaline batteries are legal to trash in most states, but rechargeable and lithium batteries are not. Recycling all of them is the safe choice.
