Blue Line Transfer Station at 500 East Jamie Court in South San Francisco is a public disposal and recycling facility run by South San Francisco Scavenger. No appointment is needed. Every vehicle crosses a certified scale on the way in and on the way out, and charges follow weight and material type. Loads must be covered and secure. Three operations share the site. The transfer station takes general waste, construction and demolition debris, and recycling such as clean, dry mattresses, box springs, futons, carpet, and padding. The BOPA Center takes household hazardous waste, including batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze, and sharps. The Buyback Center pays California Redemption Value on eligible containers, one trip per customer per day. The C&D sorting line is third-party certified and registered with the San Francisco Department of Environment.

Zarc Recycling's South San Francisco buyback yard is temporarily closed until 4/21/2025 for maintenance work, with normal business hours resuming on that date. The facility offers buyback services for non-ferrous metals like copper, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel, as well as ferrous metals such as scrap metal tin and HMS. Additionally, they provide CRV redemption for aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and glass bottles, along with styrofoam recycling for EPS and XPS materials. Customers can also recycle business electronics like computers, printers, and monitors, as well as public electronics like TVs and DVD players. The center handles product equipment destruction for unsold inventory and older models, data destruction through hard drive wiping, battery recycling for lead acid, alkaline, and lithium-ion batteries, and appliance recycling for refrigerators, water heaters, and microwaves. They also offer services for office data center decommission planning, remarketing of new and used equipment, pickups using logistics trailers, flat beds, and end-dumps, and custom recycling solutions for customer needs. Visitors are advised to check the website for any schedule changes closer to the reopening date.

Most scrap yards buy lead-acid car batteries by the pound or per battery. Auto parts stores usually take them free and may refund a core charge.
Tape the terminals of lithium and 9-volt batteries or bag each one separately. Loose lithium batteries can short and start fires in bins and trucks.
Alkaline batteries are legal to trash in most states, but rechargeable and lithium batteries are not. Recycling all of them is the safe choice.
