Appliance Recycling in Pittsburgh: FAQ
Will a scrap yard in Pittsburgh, PA take my refrigerator?
Many will, but refrigerators, freezers, and AC units contain refrigerant that must be removed by a certified technician. Some yards require a tag proving it was evacuated, others charge a fee to do it.
Do I get paid for old appliances?
Scrap yards pay for appliances by weight as light iron, which is usually a few dollars per appliance. Transfer stations typically charge a disposal fee instead.
Can my utility pick up an old fridge?
Some electric utilities run free pickup programs for working refrigerators and freezers, sometimes with a rebate. Check your utility before hauling it yourself.
