Biltmore Iron & Metal Co., known as BIMCO, began as Standard Iron and Metal in 1929 and took its current name in 1951 when J. Paul and Sue Long renamed it. The family still runs the business from a yard at 1 Meadow Road in Asheville, with a second yard in Hendersonville on Asheville Highway. Customers drive onto certified scales while staff identify the material, weigh it and settle up. The yards take ferrous and non-ferrous metal including copper, insulated wire, brass and bronze, aluminum, stainless, lead, titanium, radiators, electric motors, wheels, cast iron, steel, empty appliances and automotive body parts. Non-ferrous sellers show a valid NC or federal photo ID, and copper is paid by check under North Carolina law. BIMCO also delivers containers from one cubic yard up to 50-cubic-yard roll-off trailers, plus hoppers and flatbeds.
