City of Phoenix North Gateway Transfer Station
About This Center
Phoenix owns two strategically placed transfer stations, one in north Phoenix and one in South Phoenix. The transfer stations temporarily house all of the trash from Phoenix in preparation for hauling the materials to the State Route 85 Landfill in Buckeye. All recyclables in Phoenix are also sent to the transfer stations to be sorted by the adjoining Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The MRF contains a series of machines and conveyors that sort glass, paper, metal, cardboard, and plastic into separate bales. All green organics are sent to the 27th Avenue Compost Facility to be processed into quality compost. The transfer stations accept appliances, tires, and other waste materials for a fee, with specific guidelines for disposal. Residents can take up to two CRT units per household per month free of charge, with a fee of $20 per unit after the first two, plus additional disposal fees. Tires are accepted with a limit of five automobile tires per year, with rims removed. Commercial hazardous waste, radioactive waste, and certain other materials are prohibited. Customers must comply with disposal fees and handling guidelines, including the requirement for an Express Exit Disposal Permit Decal for commercial business customers. Residents can purchase compost containers for $5 and enroll in the Certified Green Organics Program for vegetation-only loads. Contact details for further information can be obtained by sending an email to the provided address.

Pat Murphy (1/5 stars, 4 months ago): As several others have complained about whoever is setting the cash deposit rules at this place needs to be fired. Whoever is administering the website too. At bare minimum update your website so it's accurate. See the terms listed in the pictures. Nowhere in the terms does it say a cash deposit. If you do happen to scroll several more pages it states a cash deposit over 1 ton is required. How are the poor people at the windows supposed to gauge if you're over a ton or not just looking at your load??? I took a load of all green waste down this week and was told I couldn't dump without a $100 cash deposit. I had about $70 cash and a debit and credit card and offered to leave that but was told they couldn't do it. Had to be cash. I'm not an idiot and sure wouldn't go through the hassle of leaving a card and having to cancel it to try and skirt a bill. I had to then waste an hour and diesel running back to the bank get another $30 in cash and then drive back wait in line again. All of that hassle for $3 in actual overage charges. I feel bad for the scale people who probably get yelled at several times a day because some idiot bureaucrat that set these outdated rules. The nice guy at the scale actually said "thanks for not yelling at me" and he has told supervisors the same thing. Maybe they should be the ones to man the window for an hour and they'll understand how frustrating and wasteful their moronic policy is. What is the point of trying to be "green" efficient and to do the right thing when you can't do a preauthorization on a credit or debit card? This isn't the 1960's when everyone paid with cash. Step into at least the 20th century City of Phoenix administrators and accept credit or debit cards. If it's not the policy of your bank fire them and get another provider that can make it happen. If I ran my plumbing business like this I'd be broke. Imagine me telling a customer they needed to give me a cash deposit before I could start any work for them. I would be laughed out of their home. Even if your website was accurate a cash deposit is so vague it means nothing. Is a cash deposit $5 $50 $100 or $200? And how are the scale operators arriving at these numbers? Last time I checked $55/ton doesn't divide into $100 evenly. If they thought I was 2 tons overweight because I have a 7700# truck with a 4500# trailer that would put me over 16k total weight which I wasn't see the receipt. Reading other bad reviews there seems to be no consistency in how the scale people arrive at the deposit numbers some say $50 some have said $200. If you're going to continue this asinine policy at least make it consistent and post it clearly on your website. The cost of labor fuel wear and tear to vehicles environmental damage from driving around and idling in line just to satisfy a stupid rule just isn't working for us the people who you're supposed be serving. You need to do better City of Phoenix. My next call is to my councilwoman maybe she can get someone in this department to come to their senses.

He was extremely rude and unprofessional throughout our interaction. He assigned us to lane 7 which already had two other vehicles in it even though all the other lanes only had one. We have a large white truck loaded with furniture (including a metal table and broken couch) and didn’t want to risk scraping against the other vehicles. We politely let him know we would wait. When one of the vehicles left and we tried to go in he began giving us unnecessary grief accusing us of trying to go “wherever we wanted ” even though we were in the lane he had told us to use. When we calmly tried to confirm what we were doing was okay he walked away visibly irritated only to return and continue micromanaging us—something we noticed he wasn’t doing with any other customers. His tone was hostile and accusatory for no apparent reason. When I asked for his name so I could file a complaint he escalated further. He approached our truck placed his hands on the window and aggressively asked “Why? Why do you need to know?” I was alone in the passenger seat at the time and I found his behavior incredibly intimidating and inappropriate—especially since I hadn’t even been the one talking to him previously. He finally told me his name was “Baby ” which felt sarcastic and dismissive. It was uncomfortable degrading and made me feel unsafe as a young woman. This kind of behavior is unacceptable from any employee let alone someone who seems to be in a leadership role. I hope this complaint is taken seriously and that others are not subjected to this kind of treatment in the future. Would you like help finding where to officially file this complaint or leave a review depending on your location? You said: Like from belittling the size of my partners truck to approaching me while I was alone and had nothing to do with it

It was my first time ever trying to use the free a/c discharge and tire dump…. Also had some trash to dump and I brought enough cash for one ton my load was only a couple hundred pounds and i didn’t bring enough cash for the deposit and was turned away…. Brought another load and brought the $80 cash thats was needed before and now they wanted $110….. turned away again…. I get to dump 5 tires a year and 1 a/c discharge a year and was denied… Someone should get fired for the way this place is ran.
